Waking Dream

Above me diamonds shimmer
Into patterns I can't know
It's dizzying and fanciful
And lifts me when I'm low

I look beyond the starlight
And see the worlds beyond
Always there in velvet sky
Disappearing with the dawn

I sit in silent wonder
Knowing some things can't be seen
Like happiness and heartache
And emotions in-between

So night shines all around me
It's time to forget all cares
I'll smile and place a red rose
Into my silken hair

Sometimes we need reality
To anchor our esteem
And other times we sorely need
A lovely waking dream

is overlooked because it
doesn't cost anything.
