Time

Gazing at the white capped waves
That pound the rocky shore
I hear the music of my heart
Begin to play once more

I close my eyes to catch each note
That dances in my soul
And find that place I need to be
As I surrender all control

The music just plays on and on
Until the shadows fall
For nothing seems to break the spell
Or matter much at all

I'm where I know I want to be
At one with sky and sea
So, I'll just let eternal music
Wash all over me

Time fades into the sunset
Oh yes how well I know
That I will have to soon depart
This place I love to go

I slowly stand and turn to leave
But not without a smile
For the music that has captured me
Is still playing all the while

Since time is the one immaterial object which we cannot influence--
neither speed up nor slow down, add to nor diminish--
it is an imponderably valuable gift.
