The Ashes of Christmas

Among the ashes of Christmas
A message has been found
It's rarely seen and rarely heard
And rarely allowed in town

His birth is left unheralded
In many a public place
The very mention of His name
Might be considered a total disgrace

Yet gifts are bought and gifts are sold
The shops are filled to the brim
There are Santas and snowmen all around
But never a word about Him

I worry what to buy my kids
I worry what to cook
I worry if the house looks good
I worry how I look

The needy are always with us
The shops will never close
With a wish for a "Happy Holiday"
We've dealt the final blow

I want Christ back in my Christmas
It's the Messiah's praises I sing
His love can change the hearts of all
Who kneel before the King

Among the ashes of Christmas
A message still rings true
The Savior was born on Christmas Day
And the person He came for was you

His love will heal your heartache
His hope will light your way
He is the gift you need the most
And the price is already paid

Christmas hath a darkness;
Brighter than the blazing noon;
Christmas hath a chillness
Warmer than the heat of June,
Christmas hath a beauty
Lovelier than the world can show:
For Christmas bringeth Jesus,
Brought for us so low
