Passing Things

I never thought the day would come
When we would say good-bye
The years have changed us both, it seems
And I have no tears to cry

I used to wish that you would see
What words could not convey
I tried to tell you time and again
But you looked the other way

I didn't ask for the moon or stars
Or promises you couldn't keep
I just wanted to know you really cared
When I closed my eyes to sleep

The stars don't seem so bright to me
And the moon looks pale and dim
I'll cast my dreams on another sea
I'm not one to follow trends

This sad night can't last forever
Morning sunlight soon will bring
The courage that I sorely need
To say good-bye to passing things

Our greatest glory consists not in never falling,
but in rising every time we fall.
