Walking between the rows
Spaced evenly and fine
My heart is strolling far into
The corridors of time
The sunlight slowing fading
I catch a glimpse on stone
The name of some lone serviceman
Who's finally gone home
Flags waving at half-mast around
This gathering of souls
Who fought the fight when duty called
Their story must be told
I see the hills all golden kissed
Surrounding sacred ground
And think of wars and peace and tears
Like Taps, that lonely sound
Your legacy is in the sky
Where eagles soar in flight
The light from those bright glory days
Illuminates the darkest night

This is my letter to the world,
That never wrote to me,
The simple news that Nature told,
With tender majesty.
Her message is committed,
To hands I cannot see;
For love of her, sweet countrymen,
Judge tenderly of me
