The Answer

I woke today to a world so cold
At least it seemed so to me
The headlines screamed of hate and war
And deep moral poverty

I sighed and felt a sudden chill
That wrapped around my heart
What difference could I possibly make
In a world that's falling apart?

I don't have wealth or status to make
A change that would matter at all
So I drank my tea and whispered a prayer
To the One who hears when I call

A heavy heart has no wings to fly
He whispered to me tenderly
And all that's wrong will be made right
In the course of eternity

There are pleasures so fleeting
And revenge without thought
Leaving hearts that are broken
Values shattered and lost

I closed my eyes and wondered aloud
Why this pattern could not be reversed
What is the solution to this turmoil I see
Which seems to be just getting worse?

In a flash the answer was clear and I smiled
My heart remembered what my mind had forgot
In my search for solutions to all that is wrong
It was solved in this simple thought

Let the battles rage on as they certainly will
And the mighty strike hard from above
But nothing will defeat the force and the power
Of this one word that shines on called love

A warm breeze so gentle ruffled my hair
Melting my heart in a flash
A heavenly touch that meant so much
Oh the power of love has no match!

Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day. It is a choice based on the knowledge that we belong to God and have found in God our refuge and our safety and that nothing, not even death, can take God away from us. Joy is the experience of knowing that you are unconditionally loved and that nothing--sickness, failure, emotional distress, oppression, war, or even death--can take that love away.
